Dr Sheri Wood Wonder Woman

Meet Dr. Sheri L. Wood

My journey with Grow Through Loss began after the loss of my husband, Russell, a Marine Disabled Veteran, in April 2024. This season of my life left me and our daughter, confronting uncertainty as it pertains to my identity as a wife, caregiver, mom, and grief, loss, transition, and work towards rebuilding my life.

At Grow Through Loss, I culminate my training and experience as a therapist, mom, widow, entrepreneur, bestselling author, keynote speaker, and Harvard Medical School lifestyle wellness enthusiast to support women through loss, emotional healing, and transformation. Most importantly, I am a follower of Jesus, and my faith is woven into the heart of the work I do with the women I serve.

My professional background as a therapist, combined with my lived experiences as a mom, widow,  entrepreneur, best-selling author, and keynote speaker, have shaped the heart of Grow Through Loss. What initially started for me as a personal response to losing my veteran husband has continued to evolve into the work I am creating today.

The Grow Through Loss brand was cultivated from my deep desire to reinvent myself through pain rather than resign myself to it. I sought to create a space where women can learn how to adapt, grow, and rediscover their power and vitality in the throes of life’s most challenging circumstances.

For more than 21 years, I have worked helping others navigate change, grief, loss, trauma, and personal growth. I have walked through profound loss as a wife and caregiver to my Marine Disabled Veteran with heart failure, kidney failure, and a myriad of other medical issues for well over 17 years. I have encountered obstacles in academia, in business, and in my personal life. Through every challenge, I made a decision to continue moving forward with dignity and gratitude, even when the path ahead has often felt unpredictable.

Rather than avoiding adversity, I continue to trudge through it in real time. My life continually presents obstacles, and I seek opportunities amid them, choosing resilience, adaptation, and personal growth. I understand loss is not something we “get over.” Instead, we can be more intentional and learn how to grow through our loss. These principles are the heart of everything I share with other women who are also experiencing loss.

Originally born in St. Johns, Michigan, raised in Ohio until I was 16 years old, then I moved to Overland Park, Kansas for a time, and now I live in Manhattan, Kansas. I continue to cultivate this work while volunteering at church, leading a Monday night group in my home, developing a new business, and preparing future talks focused on emotional healing and growth.

Through the Grow Through Loss website, books, speaking engagements, and professional platforms, I invite you to learn, heal, and grow along with me. My message is simple: loss may change us, it does not have to define us, it is just a page of our story. I encourage you to find the strength within yourself as you step into adaptive growth in the midst of your own personal loss.
